Pre-Operative Care FAQs

To prepare for a tooth extraction, make transportation plans ahead of time since you won't be able to drive after if you are receiving sedation. It's also important to wear comfortable clothes, follow your dentist's pre-operative instructions, and have plenty of recovery items on hand at home, like extra gauze, soft foods, ice packs, and over-the-counter pain medication.
Before your dental procedure, follow the pre-operative instructions provided by your dentist, which may include stopping certain medications and supplements several days in advance, arranging travel plans in case you need someone to accompany and pick you up, and fasting for a specified period before treatment.
Recovery from oral surgery can take several weeks to months, depending on the type and extent of the procedure.
Depending on the dental procedure being performed, you may be able to have a light snack or meal a couple of hours beforehand. For more extensive surgeries, you may be required to fast before the procedure.
If you are undergoing oral surgery, wear loose, comfortable clothing. If you are receiving IV sedation, it's best to wear a short-sleeved shirt so the team can easily access your arm veins.
